In Tennessee, More Fungal Meningitis Cases Confirmed

Tennessee is reporting another increase in the number of people diagnosed with fungal meningitis. A state health department spokesman says 63 people have been infected in Tennessee from a tainted steroid. The death toll remains unchanged at eight.

The spokesman says the agency is not aware of any patients affected by other tainted drugs that may have come from the same drug compounding facility in Massachusetts that produced the tainted epidural steroid.

Nationwide, at least 19 deaths and 247 confirmed infections in 15 states have been linked to that steroid.
