Textbooks Delay Jefferson Schools Project

By AP

Louisville, KY – A problem has developed with a $25 million plan to improve math and science in Jefferson County public schools.
Officials say the plan will have to be delayed a year because suitable textbooks can't be found. Now it will be the fall of 2007 before the GE funded initiative can be started and increased graduation requirements for math and science could be delayed.
Superintendent Stephen Daeschner says district officials working on a new curriculum said they could not find textbooks and materials that met the plan to teach fewer key topics more deeply.
