Trial Date Set in Pregnant Kidnapping, Murder

A trial date has been set for a South Central Kentucky woman charged with murdering a pregnant acquaintance and taking her baby.  Kathy Michelle Coy was in a Warren County courtroom this morning where attorneys agreed to set trial for January 15th, 2013.

Investigators say Coy used a stun gun to subdue 21-year-old Jamie Stice before killing her and cutting the baby from her abdomen.  The baby boy survived the attack.  Warren County Commonwealth's Attorney Chris Cohron says he will decide whether to seek the death penalty against Coy before her next court hearing on Feburary 20th.  Stice's mother Jeannie wants the maximum punishment.

"I want the death penalty because I want her to see the judge tell her 'You are going to sit on death row in jail for the rest of your  life', Stice said. "I want Isaiah, Jamie's baby, to know we fought all the way for her."

Stice's son is now a healthy 9 month old and is being raised by his father and grandmother.  Coy sat stone-faced in court, and after the hearing, was returned to the Warren County Regional Jail where she has remained since last March.
