Harlan, KY – Controversy is brewing in eastern Kentucky over a State Senate candidate's TV ad featuring images of the September 11th terrorist attacks.
The ad, run by Republican representative Johnnie Turner of Harlan, also criticizes incumbant Democrat senator Daniel Mongiardo for opposing a bill that made it tougher for non-citizens to get driver's licenses.
In response, senator Mongiardo is accusing Turner of resorting to bigotry and racism in order to gain votes in next month's election.
Turner also voted against the bill, but says his decision was based upon the belief that it would hurt non-U.S. citzen military personnel and their families. Turner says Mongiardo deserves to be critcized for his insensitivity in opposing the bill at a Senate committee meeting in Frankfort.
