UK Freshman Charged in Car Fire
A University of Kentucky student from Elizabethtown has been charged with arson, after an overturned car caught fire last week. Authorities say the vehicle was set ablaze in the wake of the Wildcat basketball team's victory over Louisville.
Officials at the University of Kentucky have identified Daebrion T. Hopwood of Elizabethtown as the person arrested in connection with the case. Lexington Fire Battalion Chief Ed Davis told the Herald Leader that at least two more people are thought to be involved.
According to the Associated Press, court documents indicate that Hopwood was recorded on video putting lighter fluid on a sweat shirt which was then ignited and thrown into an overturned vehicle. Hopwood has been booked into the Fayette County Detention Center on a $2,500 bond.
