Unclaimed Property Checks Top $726,000 in Kentucky
By Dan Modlin
More than one thousand Kentuckians are receiving checks this week from the Unclaimed Property Division of the Kentucky Treasury. State officials say the checks range in value from four cents to $43,000.
Kentucky Treasurer Todd Hollenback says employees in the Division have managed to cut down processing time to less than one month for claims. He says it used to take up to 90 days to complete that procedure.
The State Treasurer is custodian of all property surrendered to the state that is presumed abandoned or lost. The Treasury has returned 64 million dollars worth of unclaimed property to residents of Kentucky since 2008.
