Unemployment Rates Decline in 97 Counties in Kentucky

Frankfort, KY – The Kentucky Department for Employment Services says jobless
rates dropped in 97 counties in the most recent study of the
state's job situation. For April of this year, six counties still had
jobless rates above ten percent. However, in April of 2003,
seventeen counties recorded double digit unemployment rates.

Metcalfe County's 2.3 percent jobless rate was the lowest in
the state for April of this year. Barren County had a jobless rate
of 3.1 percent, while Hart county had an unemployment rate
of 3.3 percent.

Magoffin County has the state's highest unemployment rate---
15.1 percent.
