Update: Tennessee Mosque Could Get OK to Open Today

A team of Rutherford County, Tennessee building code inspectors has been inside a Murfreesboro mosque today. That move is part of the process for granting the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro a certificate of occupancy, which was ordered yesterday by a U.S. District Court judge in Nashville.

Rutherford County Building Codes Director David Jones told the Daily News Journal that he would likely be ready to announce the results of the inspection today. The mosque has been prevented from opening by court action by opponents who don’t want to see it opened.

Muslim worshippers in the region have been hoping the mosque would open in time for the holy month of Ramadan, which begins tonight at sundown.
