A long-term cancer study is getting underway across the country, and enrollment in Kentucky starts Tuesday. The American Cancer Society says volunteers will take a survey, have their waist measured, and give a small blood sample at various locations across Louisville and central Kentucky. Then, they will be mailed a follow-up survey every two to three years.
“Previous cancer studies that the American Cancer Society has embarked upon found important information such as the links between lung cancer and smoking or the link between obesity and increased cancer risk. So who knows what types of links this particular study will help extrapolate," says American Cancer Society spokeswoman Stephanie Feger.
Volunteers must be between the ages of 30 and 65 who have never been diagnosed with cancer before. The following is a list of sign-up locations:
