Warning System For Prison Escapees

By AP

Louisville, KY – The state plans to introduce a warning system Friday to alert people to prison excapes nearby.
The corrections department says people living close to any of the state's 14 prisons can call a toll-free number to register.
When a prisoner escapes, the automated system will call those on the registry with a recorded message. People will be called again when the escapee is captured.
The catalyst for creating the system was Earl Aldrich's escape in january from the Roederer Correctional complex near La Grange. The prison's notification list was outdated and wasn't activated when a head count showed Aldrich was missing. He was captured about 30 hours later.
