Weekend Traffic Stop Leads To Murder Suspects

By AP

Monticello, KY – Police say a weekend traffic stop in Monticello led to the discovery of a slain husband and wife in Clinton County two days later.
State police say the murder victims were 56 year old Ronnie Burchett and his 54 year old wife Charlonia. Police found the bodies Monday, but both had been dead for several days.
Monticello police chief Melvin Rose said officers from his department arrested the couple's 30 year old son, John Burchett, and his friend Jarred Hancock Saturday afternoon on unrelated charges. Officers stopped the car in which they were travelling and it proved to be the murder victims' vehicle.
Coroner Steve Talbott says an autopsyshowed that Ronnie Burchett was shot twice in the head. Results on Charlonia Burchett were not available, but he says she had been shot as well.
