Western Kentucky Medical Examiner Office Months Away from Reopening

The medical examiner’s office in Western Kentucky has been vacant nearly a year, forcing counties to pay more for autopsies. However, the Madisonville office will be back in business at the start of next year.  Dr. Greg Wanger who is currently with the Northern Kentucky Medical Examiner’s office, will become the new Western Kentucky medical examiner effective January 1, 2013. Wanger has 28 years of experience in death investigations, having practiced forensic pathology in Alabama and Virginia prior to coming to Kentucky.

The hiring is a relief to western Kentucky coroners, who have been incurring the extra costs of transporting bodies to Louisville for autopsies.
