Washington, D.C. – First District Congressman Ed Whitfield will meet with leaders in Turkey in an attempt to persuade those leaders to permit deployment of more than 60,000 U.S. troops. The Republican from western Kentucky and Congressman Robert Wexler of Florida co-chair the House Turkish Caucus. The U.S. hopes to use Turkey as a base for a northern operation, if a war starts against Iraq.
