WKU Program Earns White House Recogntion
Paul Markham of the WKU Institute for Citizenship and Social Responsibility and WKU Senior Bianca Brown were honored at the White House last week. Their leadership is in the "Public Achievement" program which seeks to increase civic engagement among students in grades K thru 16. Dr. Markham says it's extremely important to reach students at an early age about the issue.
The Public Achievement program was started in Minneapolis, and WKU's project is the first of its kind in Kentucky. Dr. Markham says plans are currently being developed to offer the project across the state.
Student Bianca Brown works with a group of fifth graders through the program. She says it offers unique learning opportunities for the elementary students, and is valuable experience for her. Bianca is planning to pursue a career in education, after she graduates from WKU.
