WKU Swimmer Makes U.S. Olympic Team
For Claire Donahue it was the culmination of a life-long dream. The 23-year-old Tennessee native and WKU graduate finished second in the 100 meter butterfly finals in Omaha last night, good enough to qualify for the U.S. team headed to London next month.
Claire touched the wall at 57.57 seconds, just over a half second behind race winner Dana Vollmer.
Donahue was swimming from Lane 1--something that causes a disadvantage of having to fight the wakes of the other swimmers bouncing off the wall of the pool.
Five other swimmer's in Tuesday night's final were members of the 2008 team that went to Beijing.
Claire says she'll head back to Bowling Green following her other race, the 200 meter butterfly, then head to Knoxville to train with her other American teammates before heading for London.
