World's Longest Yard Sale Begins

By AP

Covington, KY – As usual, the World's Longest Yard Sale is off to an early start in its 19th year.
As fast as vendors can unpack collectibles and used furniture, shoppers are grabbing it up.
Tom and Lavenia Holly of Pensacola, Florida unloaded a vanload of glassware at Signal Mountain, Tennessee Thursday and said its their fifth year at the 450 mile long, four day bargain hunting spree.
The sale attracts ebay wheeler-dealers, but after 19 years gets treated more like a family reunion.
The yard sale started in 1987 as a way to lure travellers away from Interstates 40 and 75 to rural communities between Covington, Kentucky, along U. S. Highway 127 through Tennessee and Georgia to the Lookout Mountain Parkway and to Gadsen, Alabama.
