Christian County Town Will be Best Place in the World to See Eclipse

The Western Kentucky town of Hopkinsville has hit the astronomical jackpot. When a total eclipse of the sun darkens skies Aug. 21, 2017, the show will last longer in a stretch of hilly country near Hopkinsville than any place on the planet. It will last two minutes and 40 seconds, not much longer than the Kentucky Derby.

Christian County Library Receives Donation to Give Books to Kids

An anonymous donor has given $200,000 to enable a western Kentucky public library provide free books to children every month. The Kentucky New Era reported Friday the donation will help establish a Dolly Parton Imagination Library project through the Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library.

Federal Government to Test Kentucky River, May Impose Pollution Controls

A southwestern Kentucky river is set to undergo testing and farmers and businesses could face more restrictions in an effort to reduce river pollution depending upon the result. The United States Geological Survey will test the Little River, which runs through Trigg and Christian counties and flows into Lake Barkley.

Law Limiting Public Smoking Under Consideration in Hopkinsville

The Hopkinsville City Council is reviving a smoking ordinance proposed earlier this year. Members will consider the measure Thursday to ban smoking from indoor places such as restaurants and bars. Mayor Dan Kemp proposed the new law in April, and it was set to come up for a vote in June.

A Christian County plant has landed a contract through 2020 to make extra-wide airplane body parts for Airbus. Plymouth Engineering Shapes in Hopkinsville is undergoing a $13 million expansion project to accommodate the new contract.
