Philanthropist Gatton Gives $20 Million For UK Student Center

Muhlenberg County native Bill Gatton has made another multi-million dollar donation to the University of Kentucky.  The 82-year-old businessman-turn-philanthropist has given $20 million toward the expansion of the student center at UK. The Herald-Leader reports it follows a $14 million donation to the university in 1995.

Gatton is the namesake for WKU’s Gatton Academy, an institution that’s been named the best public high school in America multiple times by a national publication.

Gatton Academy seniors Charvinia Neblett of Russellville and Henry Uradu of Russell have been recognized as semifinalists in the National Achievement Scholarship Program, an honor that potentially opens the door to college scholarship opportunities.

Celebration for Gatton Academy Recognition Held

The Carol Martin Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science was named the Number one high school in the country earlier this year by Newsweek magazine. In recognition of that honor, a celebration took place on the WKU campus. The ceremony gave many of the leaders who helped to make the Academy possible a chance to reflect on what it means to the university, the students, and the region.

Celebration Planned for Gatton Academy

Earlier this year Newsweek magazine named the Carol Martin Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science in Kentucky at WKU "America's Number One High School." On Monday, September 24th, a celebration will be held on the WKU campus, with Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear scheduled to speak.

Gatton Academy Director Says All of Kentucky Should Be Proud of #1 Ranking

The Executive Director of the Gatton Academy for Science and Math at Western Kentucky University says their recent number one ranking in the country is good news for the entire Commonwealth.

WKU Administrator to Lead Arkansas Educational System

The Gatton Academy at WKU

University of Arkansas system president Donald Bobbitt will recommend Corey Alderdice to lead the Arkansas School of Mathmatics, Sciences and the Arts. Alderdice is currently the assistant director for admissions and public relations at the Gatton Academy of Mathmatics and Science at Western Kentucky University.

Gift Will Establish Speakers Series at Gatton Academy

 A twenty thousand dollar gift from AT&T will help to launch a speakers program at the Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science at WKU.   Gatton Director Tim Gott says the program will benefit students and members of the general public, because the speeches will be held in locations that will allow members of the public and campus community to attend.

AT&T Gift to Establish Endowed Speaker Series

 AT&T is announcing a gift to help launch a speaker series at Western Kentucky University. The series will be an endowed program, created to connect students at the Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science with educators, policy makers, industry leaders, and entrepreneurs.  The program will be called the "AT&T Innovation and Leadership Speaker Series."
