Indiana's GOP and Democratic Gubernatorial Candidates Both Have Female Running Mates

With the addition of two women to gubernatorial tickets, it’s almost guaranteed that the next duo to run Indiana will be a man and a woman — for the third consecutive time. Republican candidate Mike Pence toured the state Monday with his choice for lieutenant governor: state Rep. Sue Ellspermann. The pair said they will focus on economic development if elected in November and said her candidacy is not about attracting female voters, but about choosing the best candidate.

Mourdock Beats Lugar by Wide Margin in Indiana Senate Primary

Six-term Indiana Senator Richard Lugar won't be returning to Washington for a seventh term. Republican State Treasurer Richard Mourdock defeated Lugar in Tuesday's Indiana Republican Senate primary. With 95% of the vote counted, Mourdock was leading Lugar 60% to 40%.

Indiana's Republican Senate Primary is next Tuesday, and it's drawing national attention. For the first time in decades, Senator Richard Lugar is facing a primary challenger. The person opposing Lugar is State Treasurer Richard Mourdock, a conservative with backing from local and national Tea Party organizations. Despite the fact that Lugar has maintained a very conservative voting record since entering the Senate in 1977, Mourdock and his supporters say Lugar is out of touch with ordinary Indiana voters, and not conservative enough for many Indiana Republicans.
