Report on Constables Encourages Lawmakers Seeking to Abolish Office

Kentucky lawmakers who advocate abolishing the office of constable are emboldened by a new report from the state justice cabinet calling for just that. Constables have the same law enforcement powers as county sheriffs, but without the specific duties. Like sheriffs, the position is outlined in the constitution.

Three Kentucky Agencies Probe Requests for Political Contributions

A published report says three agencies are investigating allegations that a former state official pressured workers to contribute to the re-election campaign of Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear. The Courier-Journal reports the FBI, the state attorney general's office and the Kentucky Executive Branch Ethics Commission have interviewed current or former employees of the Department of Juvenile Justice about calls made in 2010 by former deputy secretary Charles Geveden.

Chandler Ponders Future After Losing Election

U.S. Rep. Ben Chandler says he's not sure what the future holds for him after he leaves elected office in January. Chandler told the Lexington Herald-Leader and The Courier-Journal that he hasn't made up his mind about what he'll do, but he has several options. Some of those include a possible appointment to a government position, lobbying or practicing law.

Leeper To Seek Top Senate Post

An independent from Paducah says he's running for the top position in the Republican-controlled state senate. Senator Bob Leeper made the announcement Thursday. The position has been left vacant by the resignation of David Williams who has accepted a judgeship in southern Kentucky.
