Bill Would Curb Credit Card Sales on Campus

Frankfort, KY – A bill passed by a House committee in Frankfort would
require college students to get parental permission to
apply for credit cards solicited on campus. House bill
63 is sponsored by House Speaker Jody Richards,
a Democrat from Bowling Green.

Senate Committee Approves Firearms Dealers Bill

Frankfort, KY – A Senate Committee has approved a bill that would
ensure that firearms dealers can locate in any area where
other businesses are permitted. Senate Bill 95 says that
lawmakers intend for federally-licensed firearms dealers
or manufacturers to be able to locate anywhere that
other lawful businesses can locate.

Judge Refuses to Drop Guilty Plea in Conner Case

Lexington, KY – A Federal judge has denied Tina Conner's request
to withdraw her guilty plea in a mail fraud case.
The former mistress of former Kentucky Governor
Paul Patton was sentenced to two years probation
by U-S District Judge Joseph Hood.

Kentucky Commission on Women Head to Leave Post

Frankfort, KY – The head of the Kentucky Commission on Women is
stepping down from her position, in response to a
request from Governor Ernie Fletcher's administration.
Betsy Nowland-Curry has served as the Commission's
Executive Director for more than three years.

She told the Lexington Herald-Leader that she was
asked to step down, effective February 15th. Governor
Fletcher's wife, Glenna, is reportedly interested in taking
a more active role in the Commission.

House Committee Approves Beverage Bill

Frankfort, KY – The House Health and Welfare Committee has
approved a bill that would reduce student access
to soft drinks and other sugary beverages during
the school day. HB 261 would prohibit elementary
schools from selling "soda waters" during the

Fletcher Says Refinancing Bonds will Help Education

administration has scraped up 23 million
dollars by refinancing some state bonds.

Conner Resigns from Kentucky Lottery Board

Louisville, KY – The former nursing home owner and mistress of
ex-governor Paul Patton is leaving her position on
the Kentucky Lottery Board. Tina Conner did not give a
reason for leaving the Board, but she is
scheduled to appear in Federal Court Monday to
be sentenced on a mail fraud charge.

Plan to Upgrade State Office Building Draws Controversy

Frankfort, KY – The budget given to Kentucky lawmakers by
Governor Ernie Fletcher includes 46 million dollars
to renovate the State Office Building. The upgrades
would mean the 12 story structure would be
empty for the next few years, as floors are
revamped and filled with new furniture.

State officials want the building formerly used
by the Transportation Cabinet to reflect the
Cabinet's new 113 million dollar headquarters,
which are located across the street in Frankfort.

Former Governor Louie B. Nunn Dies

Versailles, KY – Former Kentucky Governor Louie B. Nunn died
last night at his Versailles residence. Woodford
County Coroner Steve Ward says the 79 year old
Nunn collapsed after suffering an apparent
heart attack.
