Plans Unveiled for New E'Town Police Station

Elizabethtown, Kentucky – Architects have unveiled plans for a 9.4 million dollar Elizabethtown Police Department building. Councilman Ron Thomas says the figure startled him. The figure includes 5.1 million dollars in construction costs for a 6,600 square-foot building and 1.2 million for development costs including parking lots and landscaping. The firm making the estimate says some of the costs could be trimmed -- maybe 100,000 dollars from the renovation costs of the building's garage.

Adair County Couple Killed; Son is Suspect

Columbia, Kentucky – Police continue looking for a teenager accused of fatally shooting his parents in their rural Adair County home.

Sixteen-year-old Blake P. Walker is wanted on two counts of murder in the deaths of 55-year-old Barbara Peterson and 54-year-old Brian Walker.

Kentucky State Police say the couple was shot multiple times with a handgun Sunday in their home in the Knifley community, east of Columbia.

Kentucky Lawmaker Points to Budget Cuts

Richmond, VA – Kentucky State Representative Robert Damron says the answer to current budget problems lies in spending reductions, at least for now.

Damron is among lawmakers and policy leaders from every state meeting in Richmond, Virginia. They are there for the annual meeting of the Lexington-based Council of State Governments.

Campbellsville University To Get New Student Center

Campbellsville, Kentucky – A donation made by a Richmond, Virginia couple will help fund a new student center at Campbellsville University. The new facility will be named the E. Bruce Heilman Student Center Complex. Both Dr. Heilman and his wife, Betty, are alumni of the Baptist University.

Four years ago, a new president's home was dedicated and named after Betty Heilman. It is known as the Betty Dobbins Heilman House. A completion date and cost for the student center has not been announced.

Richard Enters Gubernatorial Race

Bowling Green, Kentucky – Kentucky House Speaker Jody Richards has officially announced his candidacy for Governor. The Bowling Green Democrat says the people of Kentucky deserve a "world class" educational system and government leaders who will maintain integrity.

Richards has selected Jefferson Circuit Court Clerk Tony Miller as his running mate. Miller says his extensive experience in local and state government will be an asset to the ticket.

State Auditor To Run For Attorney General

Frankfort, Kentucky – Kentucky Auditor Ed Hatchell says he will run for Attorney General in Kentucky next year. The Democrat from Glasgow, Kentucky is completing his second term as State Auditor.

Hatchett is expected to face Representative Greg Stumbo of Prestonsburg in a primary election next May. Stumbo has already announced his intention to run for Attorney General.

Chandler and Owen Team Up For Race

Versailles, KY – One-time rivals for the Democratic nomination for Kentucky Governor are teaming up.

Attorney General Ben Chandler and Louisville Businessman Charlie Owen have announced they will run together.

Chandler leads the slate as the candidate for Governor. Owen is running for Lieutenant Governor. They are the first to officially enter the Democratic primary, and they began the campaign at a rally yesterday in Versailles, Chandler's hometown.

WKU Closes Due To Winter Weather

Bowling Green, KY – A winter storm has caused Western Kentucky University to cancel all classes after 10am today. In addition, all non-essential personnel may leave at their discretion.

A mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain is expected to continue through tonight, making travel hazardous.

Conditions will be assessed again this evening, with an announcement made later regarding classes for Thursday morning.

Winter Storm Brings Snow and Ice

Bowling Green, KY – The first winter storm of the season is bringing snow and ice to much of the listening area.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning Wednesday morning, calling for snow, sleet and freezing rain to continue throughout the day and evening. Two to four inches of accumulation is expected today, with additional accumulation possible overnight.

Roads are reported to be slick and hazardous across the region, prompting numerous cancellations.

Bowling Green – Republican Congressman Ernie Fletcher of Lexington has officially declared his candidacy for Governor, and is naming Hunter Bates as his running mate. Fletcher is currently the Sixth District Congressman and Bates is a former Chief of Staff for U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky.
