WKU Closes Due To Winter Weather

Bowling Green, KY – A winter storm has caused Western Kentucky University to cancel all classes after 10am today. In addition, all non-essential personnel may leave at their discretion.

A mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain is expected to continue through tonight, making travel hazardous.

Conditions will be assessed again this evening, with an announcement made later regarding classes for Thursday morning.

Winter Storm Brings Snow and Ice

Bowling Green, KY – The first winter storm of the season is bringing snow and ice to much of the listening area.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning Wednesday morning, calling for snow, sleet and freezing rain to continue throughout the day and evening. Two to four inches of accumulation is expected today, with additional accumulation possible overnight.

Roads are reported to be slick and hazardous across the region, prompting numerous cancellations.

Bowling Green – Republican Congressman Ernie Fletcher of Lexington has officially declared his candidacy for Governor, and is naming Hunter Bates as his running mate. Fletcher is currently the Sixth District Congressman and Bates is a former Chief of Staff for U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky.

Consumers Beware

Bowling Green, Kentucky – The Kentucky Attorney General's office is urging consumers to beware of e-mail offers regarding Nigerian bank accounts.

One such offer has been distributed in South Central Kentucky today, suggesting that the recipient of the e-mail could obtain a share of a 38 million dollar bank account in Nigeria.

FBI Requests Information About Foreign Students

Louisville, KY – Some Kentucky education officials say FBI requests for detailed information about foreign faculty and students can chill recruitment efforts.

Since October, the FBI has been visiting Kentucky campuses and requesting information about foreign faculty and students such as names, addresses, phone numbers and citizenship.

Memorial Will Be Held For Fort Campbell Soldiers

Fort Campbell, Kentucky – A memorial service is scheduled Friday for two soldiers from Fort Campbell's 101st Airborne Division killed last week during a training exercise in Louisiana.

The two soldiers are 27-year-old Corporal Jason Fisher of Thousand Oaks, California, and 20-year-old Private First Class Joseph Favorito III of Higgins Lake, Michigan. They were run over by a 63 ton tank while participating in urban assault exercises at the Army's Joint Readiness Training Center at Fort Polk.

State Auditor Accuses Medicaid Agency Of Coverup

Frankfort, Kentucky – State officials deny they tried to prevent the State Auditor from learning about Medicaid overpayments to a nursing home owned by Tina Connor. The Governor's former mistress operates Birchtree Healthcare in Clinton, Kentucky. Auditor Ed Hatchett says the state's Medicaid Agency tried to withhold information about the extra payments. Hatchett also says the Medicaid office has not managed the debt it is owed, known as "accounts receivable". But, officials with the Medicaid Agency deny both the allegations.
