The website Politico is reporting that a White House source has confirmed that Sen. John Kerry will be nominated to be the next Secretary of State. Hillary Clinton has said she wants to step down soon from her post, and Kerry has been widely considered one of the top candidates to succeed her.
Anyone wanting to file as a write-in candidate for the November 6th election in Kentucky must do so by Friday of this week. Under Kentucky law, write-in candidates for any office are required to file a Declaration of Intent to be a Write-in Candidate, and they must pay a filing fee prescribed by statute. Write-in candidates for President and Vice-President must also file a list of presidential electors pledged to the candidates.
Kentucky's secretary of state is one of a half-dozen from across the country going the Middle East to assist soldiers to vote. The Lexington Herald-Leader says the Federal Voting Assistance Program and the Department of Defense asked Alison Lundergan Grimes to spend two weeks in September traveling in Afghanistan, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates and Bahrain to meet with American uniformed soldiers.
Lawmakers in both chambers have passed a bill aimed at reducing the cost of uncontested special legislative elections. Kentucky House lawmakers passed the measure weeks ago, while it passed the Senate Wednesday.
