Somerset had been described as the largest city in Kentucky without alcohol sales. However, unofficial vote totals from the city indicate that situation has changed. The Associated Press reports that 2,167 people voted in favor of alcohol sales and 1,464 voted against in yesterday's voting.
Somerset, Kentucky is currently the largest city in the Commonwealth without any kind of legal alcohol sales. A vote to be held on June 26th could change that situation.
A major nursing home chain is leaving Kentucky. Extendicare Health Services says its decision is the result of increased litigation and the recent General Assembly's inaction on tort reform. Extendicare has 21 skilled nursing centers and more than 1,700 beds in Kentucky.
