WKU head men's basketball coach Ray Harper added three more players to the roster for the 2012-13 season, as Eddie Alcantara, Michael Bradley and Aleksejs Rostovs will be suiting up for the Hilltoppers beginning in the fall. Alcantara (F, 6-5, 205, Chicago, Ill. [Hales Franciscan HS]), Bradley (F/C, 6-10, 225, Chattanooga, Tenn. [University of Connecticut]) and Rostovs (C, 6-9, 225, Riga, Latvia [Canarias Basketball Academy]) join junior college guard Brandon Harris as newcomers for the Hilltoppers in 2012-13.
After agreeing to terms on a deal following the NFL Draft, the Baltimore Ravens announced the signing of Western Kentucky University all-time leading rusher Bobby Rainey to a free-agent contract on Friday. One of 19 undrafted free-agent signees by the Ravens, Rainey is currently in Baltimore to take part in the team’s rookie mini camp this weekend.
WKU's new Athletics Director says he's confident in the future of the Sun Belt Conference. Todd Stewart--who has been serving as the school's interim AD--was officially introduced Thursday morning as the new full-time Director of Athletics. Stewart said he doesn't believe WKU's athletics future is hindered because the school isn't in one of the larger sports conferences.
Interim Athletics Director Todd Stewart has been officially named Athletics Director for Western Kentucky University. After nearly two years as WKU's Senior Associate Athletic Director, Stewart was named Interim Director of Athletics on March 22nd following the departure of Ross Bjork to the University of Mississippi.
The New York Times is reporting that the NCAA is looking into Nerlens Noel, a top prep recruit who has committed to play at national champion Kentucky next season. The newspaper says that two members of the NCAA enforcement staff went to Everett, Mass., this week to inquire about the 6-foot-10 Noel, who attended Everett High School for two years but is now at the Tilton School in New Hampshire.
