More than 300 fans swarmed the team's bus as it pulled in and erupted in cheers as the players got off the bus holding the championship award.
The WKU Hilltopper basketball team battled from behind to win the Sun Belt Conference basketball tournament championship game Tuesday night. Ray Harper's Hilltopper squad used tough defense and determined play on the boards to defeat North Texas by a final score of 74 to 70. The Hilltoppers had to win four games in four days to advance as tournament champions, and win a trip to the NCAA championship.
WKU basketball coach Ken McDonald has been fired. A statement released by the school this morning says assistant coach Ray Harper has been named interim coach. The Toppers are 5-11 so far this season, and lost at home Thursday night to Louisiana-Lafayette.
