This class will introduce weavers to native black willow bark, a very strong, flexible and beautiful fiber uncommonly used for basketry. Students will be provided with hand cut bark strips to process (clean of outer bark) and weave into a small round or square bottom basket of their choosing. Optional design variations will be on display and students are encouraged to create freely. A variety of twining techniques will be taught in addition to cordage spinning. The basket you'll make is around 3.5” diameter and can be woven up to 7.5" tall, including the handle (see baskets in photo above). Bark harvesting will be discussed. All skill levels welcome.
