He received his bachelor’s degree from WKU in 1975 before earning his law degree from UK.

On Monday, he was appointed to the state’s legislative ethics commission by both Democratic House Speaker Greg Stumbo and Republican Senate President Robert Stivers. Stephens’ appointment fills a spot that’s been vacant for two years.

The commission came under fire earlier this year when not all members were present to hear the first ethics trial of former state representative John Arnold. Arnold was found guilty of sexual harassment at a second trial, although he continues to deny the charges against him.

Vernie McGaha resigned from the commission earlier this year and he was replaced in May by former state Sen. Charlie Borders.
Mon, 02 Jun 2014 23:24:14 +0000 WKU Public Radio News 48978 at http://wkyufm.org WKU Grad Stephens Appointed To Legislative Ethics Commission Ex-Athletic Director Pleads Guilty To Stealing From Northern Kentucky http://wkyufm.org/post/ex-athletic-director-pleads-guilty-stealing-northern-kentucky
A former Northern Kentucky University athletic director has pleaded guilty to stealing more than $300,000 from the school.

Attorney General Jack Conway says Scott Eaton pleaded guilty to a theft charge Thursday in Campbell Circuit Court.

Conway called Eaton's behavior "unconscionable" and says the 50-year-old agreed to serve the maximum term of 10 years in prison and repay $311,215 to the school.

Eaton's attorney did not immediately return calls and emails seeking comment.

Eaton was fired by the college's president last year over improper relationships with female employees and a student.

The school in Highland Heights hired an outside firm to review the athletic department's accounts, which eventually led to the charge.

Prosecutors say Eaton used his university-issued credit card to buy gift cards used to purchase items for his personal use.
Thu, 17 Apr 2014 21:09:48 +0000 Associated Press 46755 at http://wkyufm.org Ex-Athletic Director Pleads Guilty To Stealing From Northern Kentucky Provost at Cleveland State to Serve as Next NKU President http://wkyufm.org/post/provost-cleveland-state-serve-next-nku-president
The Board of Regents at Northern Kentucky University have voted unanimously to make Geoffrey Mearns the next President at NKU.
