Owensboro, KY – Officials with Toyotetsu Mid-America are planning to add more than one hundred new jobs by next spring. Company Spokesman Christopher Cooper says the additional positions will be needed when the company starts to manufacture parts for two more vehicles.
Bowling Green, KY – The mother and aunt of murder victim Katie Autry have filed suit against Western Kentucky University, Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, the WKU Student Life Foundation, and three resident assistants. The lawsuit claims the university and other named defendants failed to enforce policies or provide adequate security.
Bowling Green,KY – Officials at Western Kentucky University say a two million dollar commitment to endowed professorships in science has pushed the "Investing in the Spirit" campaign over the one hundred million dollar mark. University President Gary Ransdell says the latest gift, from Dr. William McCormack, will be used for new professorships in physics and biotechnology programs.
Frankfort, KY – The Kentucky Department for Employment Services says the state's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose to 6.1 percent in July. The latest figures are up from the 5.9 percent recorded in June.
Compared to year-earlier statistics, the seasonally adjusted jobless rate in the Commonwealth was up six tenths of one percent. Kentucky is one of 26 states reporting higher unemployment rates in July of this year than in July of 2002.
