Marathon Session For Louisville Council

Louisville, KY – It took the Louisville Metro Council eight hours and 100 ballots, but early Tuesday morning democrat Barbara Shanklin was elected president.
The vote was 14 - 12 after democrat George Melton switched his support to Shanklin after favoring republican Kelly Downard for a second term earlier.
It was 1:55 a.m. when the council elected its first African-American and first female president.

Legislature To Act On 37th District Race

Frankfort, KY – A state senate showdown is on tap today in the disputed 37th district race.
A committee has named democrat Virginia Woodward the winner, but the senate's republicans occupy 22 of the 38 seats.
The five democrats on the committee voted Thursday night that republican Dana Seum Stephenson was not a legal resident for the required six years before the November election.
The four republicans on the panel voted against the report. The full senate can vote to seat Stephenson, Woodward or order a special election.
