Dan Modlin served as News Director at WKU Public Radio for 23 years, and retired in early 2013. He's a native of Indiana who grew up in a broadcasting family.  A graduate of Ball State University, he worked for several years in the news network business in the Midwest, specializing in agricultural and political coverage, before coming to WKU Public Radio. His reports have earned numerous national  and state  awards for documentary production, public affairs reporting, and enterprise reporting. Dan continues to co-host Barren River Breakdown.

Tobacco firms fight "corrective statements"

Tobacco companies are urging a federal judge to rule against the federal government's proposed industry-financed corrective statements. The companies contend the messages amount to "forced public confessions."However, the Justice Department argues that the statements need to be strong enough to protect the public from future false statements made by the tobacco industry.

Weekend Traffic Reduced to One Lane on I-65 Northbound in Louisville

Interstate 65 Northbound Repairs

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is planning to take advantage of favorable temperatures this weekend to perform pavement repairs to a busy section of Interstate 65 near downtown Louisville. This section of road didn't receive improvements during summer construction and was last paved in 2006.

Food Day Activities Planned at WKU Ag Expo Center

The Barren River District Health Department is helping to coordinate a Food Day Celebration that will be held at the WKU Agriculture Expo Center on October 24th. Crissy Rowland, the Branch Manager for Health Information with the Health Department, says the program is designed to encourage the production and consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables.

General Fund Receipts for September Increase, but Still Fall Below Pace to Meet Official Estimate

Kentucky's General Fund Receipts increased by 5.3 percent last month, compared to September of last year. However, revenues  for the first quarter still fell below the pace needed to meet the official estimate. Meanwhile, road funds declined 3.9 percent.
