Anhydrous Ammonia Leak Prompts Evacuation

By AP/Dan Modlin

Clay, KY – About three hundred people in Webster County had to be
evacuated from their homes today, after someone opened
an anhydrous ammonia tank. An official with Webster
County emergency management says the release
created a dangerous situation.

Those evacuated were allowed to return to their homes
after the leak dissipated. Anhydrous ammonia is
frequently used in illegal methamphetimine production.
Law enforcement officials in Kentucky say meth
production and abuse are among the fastest growing
criminal activities in the state.
