Frankfort, KY – A public hearing is scheduled Tuesday for people to discuss whether Kentucky schools should start using secular names to describe dates in history.
Kentucky education officials have proposed changing the "Before Christ" or BC marker to "Before Common Era" of BCE. AD would be changed to CE, standing for "Common Era".
Many Christian groups oppose the change and are expected to speak against it at the hearing in Frankfort.
The public comments will be sent to the Kentucky Board of Education for members to review at a meeting next month.
Those in favor of the secular alternativces say the change is meant to keep Kentucky education current with the date markers used by college entrance exams and national educational institutions.
