Louisville, KY – A group of Kentucky horse breeders and farm owners has launched a billboard campaign showing how tenuous the state's claim as the horse capital of the country could become.
Billboards along a stretch of I-64 in Louisville proclaim, "Welcome To New York, Horse Capital Of The World". It's a way of saying that if Kentucky doesn't do something, New York will take over the title.
The Kentucky Equine Education Project is paying for 8 to 10 billboards in Louisville and Lexington and several more in Frankfort over the next few months.
Project executive director Claria Horn Shadwick says the billboards are part of the group's goal of educating the state about the economic importance of horses in Kentucky.
