Bowling Green Mayor is Governor's Choice for Secretary of State

By Dan Modlin and Lisa Autry

Bowling Green, KY – Kentucky Secretary of State Trey Grayson announced today that he is leaving his position to become the Director of Harvard's Institute of Politics. Governor Beshear has announced this afternoon that Grayson's position will be filled by Bowling Green Mayor Elaine Walker. Bowling Green City Attorney Gene Harmon says City Commissioners will have thirty days after they receive written notice from Walker to fill the vacancy. Harmon says the person selected to be the city's next mayor doesn't necessarily have to be one of the Commissioners.

Harmon says the Commission must fill the vacancy within thirty days of receiving written notice, or the position can be filled by the Governor.
