Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl to Stay in Bowling Green

By Dan Modlin

Bowling Green, KY – The Kentucky High School Athletic Association this morning announced that a new agreement has been finalized to hold the Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl at Houchens-LT Smith Stadium for the next four years. KHSAA Commissioner Julian Tackett said the facility is ideal for the event, and he stressed that the organization has been "warmly received" by the community since moving the championships to Bowling Green in 2009.
Gary Barfield, the Executive Vice-President of Russell Brands, says his company is "thrilled" by the opportunity to serve as title sponsor for the event. Russell Athletic is a Fruit of the Loom Company, with corporate offices located in Bowling Green.
WKU Vice-President for Public Affairs Robbin Taylor says the event is a great opportunity for the university to showcase its facilities for students, families and media from across the state. The new agreement runs through 2014.
