Darfur activist in Owensboro to draw attention to continued violence
Sudanese government-backed gunmen have slaughtered tens of thousands of civilians in Darfur.
By Kevin Willis
Owensboro, Ky – The Darfur, Sudan crisis has mostly faded from media attention in recent years, replaced by violence and ethnic conflicts elsewhere. Phil Nippert wants to change that. Nippert is with the Kentuckiana Interfaith Taskforce on Darfur, and has lobbied lawmakers on behalf of the victims of the genocide in western Sudan. He says thousands of civilians are still in refugee camps, and the US government must continue to put pressure on the Sudanese government. Nippert spoke at Brescia University in Owensboro Tuesday evening. Before that, he talked over the phone with WKU Public Radio's Kevin Willis.
