Family Going To Court Over Police Shooting

Louisville, Kentucky – The family of a man who was shot to death while handcuffed plans to take Louisville Police to Court. A wrongful death suit was filed yesterday in Jefferson Circuit Court on behalf of James Taylor's four children.

The suit alleges Detective Mike O'Neil shot a handcuffed Taylor "without just or legitimate cause". The suit also alleges that O'Neil's partner, Detective Brian Luckett, failed in his duty to prevent Taylor's death. It also accuses the Police Department and the City of Louisville of failing to acequately train and supervise the officers.

The two Detectives told investigators that although handcuffed, Taylor worked his hand around his hip and lunged at them with a knife. Both officers have been suspended, pending criminal and internal investigations.
