Five Million Spent on Successful Gubernatorial Race

By AP

Frankfort, KY – Newly inaugurated Governor Ernie Fletcher spent a
record 5.6 million dollars to win this year's gubernatorial
election. The first post-election reports filed by their
campaigns to the Kentucky Registry of Election Finance
show Democrat Ben Chandler spent less than
3.8 million dollars on his unsuccessful campaign.

Fletcher also got help in the campaign from the
Republican Governors Association, which spent
at least 1.8 million dollars on advertisements. Those
ads either promoted Fletcher or attacked Chandler.

The Association's commercials raise the Republican
total for the general election to 7.4 million dollars.

Fletcher was officially sworn-in as Kentucky's Governor
at 12:01 am this morning.
