Ft. Knox Welcomes New Garrison Commander

A ceremony planned this week at Fort Knox will welcome a new garrison commander, Col. Thomas Edwards.

Fort Knox says the job is similar to mayor and city manager of the Army post.

Edwards is succeeding Col. Bruce Jenkins. Edwards most recently served at Camp Arifjan in Kuwait at Army Central Command.

Edwards will be in charge of providing on-post services for soldiers and overseeing infrastructure projects, among other duties.

Jenkins took command in July of 2011, just as the post was finishing about $1 billion in projects as part of the Pentagon's 2005 Base Realignment and Closure plan.
