Goodrum Trial Set To Begin

By AP

Owensboro, KY – The Kentucky Court of Appeals has denied a defense motion that would have re-located a high profile murder case and the trial of Lucas Goodrum is set to begin Tuesday in Owensboro.
Goodrumn is accused of raping and killing 18 year old Katie Autry in her Western Kentucky University dorm room in May of 2003. The freshman from Pellville
in Hancock County died in a Nashville hospital three days after the attack.
Goodrum's murder trial was moved from Bowling Green to Owensboro earlier this month due to pre-trial publicity in Warren County.
Goodrum's attorneys were asking the appeals court to bar special judge Thomas Castlen from holding the trial in Owensboro, saying a survey showed the publicity was just as bad in Daviess County. Attorney David Broderick wanted the trial to start in November in eastern kentucky.
Jury selection is set to begin Tuesday morning.
