Governor Appeals Decision to Deny Storm Assistance

By AP

Frankfort, KY – Kentucky Governor Paul Patton has appealed the Federal
Government's decision earlier this month to deny Kentucky
federal assistance for August storms that killed two people.

The storm destroyed eighty residences and damaged
sixty others. Thirty nine year old Eugenia McClease and
her six year old son, Jeffrey, were killed when their house
washed into a tributary of the Kentucky River.

Patton had asked federal authorities to declare Franklin
County a federal disaster following the August 22nd
storms. Portions of the county received up to six inches
of rain in about ninety minutes.
