Governor Can Appoint Judges

By AP

Frankfort, KY – Governor Fletcher has given himself permission to appoint nine judges this November.
A provision requiring that the judges be elected was the target of one of the Govenror's line-item vetoes.
Democrats say the Republican Governor's action means the public is being stripped of their right to have a say in the judges.
House Majority Whip Joe Barrows says the veto is one of the most disturbing.
But a Fletcher spokesman says the election requirement had constitutional problems and that's why the Governor took out the provision.
The nine judgeships include seven in circuit court and two in district court.
