Hardin County and Elizabethtown Halt Merger Talks

Merger talks appear dead in Hardin County. The fiscal court this week voted 7-2 against establishing a unification review commission.  For merger discussions to move forward, the unification review commission would have needed approval from both the county and Elizabethtown city government.  Proponents had argued a merger would increase Hardin County's clout on the state and national level, and streamline government services.

Opponents feared tax increases and loss of community identity.
