Louisville, KY – Prominent Kentucky author and historian George H. Yater is dead at the age of 83. Yater was the author of a Louisville history called "200 Years At The Falls Of The Ohio".
Yater died Wednesday at Louisville's Jewish Hospital.
Editor John Kleber of the Encyclopedia of Louisville says Yater was the Tom Clark of Louisville, comparing him to late Kentucky historian laureate Thomas D. Clark, who died in June.
Yater was one of three associate editors of the Encyclopedia of Louisville and a major contributor of Louisville history to the Kentucky Encyclopedia
