Homeland Security Director Wants More Exemptions to Open Records Act

By AP/Dan Modlin

Frankfort, KY – Kentucky's Homeland Security Director says he would like to
have more exemptions to the state's Open Records Act.
Erwin Roberts, who heads the Office of Homeland Security,
says documents such as vulnerability assessments
shouldn't be accessible to the public. Roberts made the
statements to an Interim Legislative Committee in Frankfort.

A Legislator who unsuccessfully pushed a bill for that
purpose earlier this year says he will try again next year.
Representative Mike Weaver of Elizabethtown sponsored
legislation for a homeland security exemption, but the
measure failed to pass. The lawmaker from Hardin County
says he will have a new bill ready when the General Assembly
meets again in January of 2005.
