Kentucky National Guard Ready for Hurricane Orders

The Kentucky National Guard is on standby as Hurricane Isaac approaches the U.S. mainland.  The governors of Florida, Louisianna, Mississippi, and Alabama have declared states of emergency.   Lientenant Colonel Kirk Hilbrecht says certain units in Kentucky are ready if the Gulf states request assistance.

"As we've seen in the past, we've been called upon in the past to provide aviation assets, public affairs, and strategic planning assets, so these are the same individuals who have their bags packed and are ready to go," says Hilbrecht.

Soldiers are airmen are on standby to support security operations, search and rescue, and supply distribution.  The Kentucky National Guard has not received any activation orders at this point.   Some Kentucky units responded to Hurricane Irene last year along the East Coast.
