Key Democrat Opposes Casinos in Kentucky

Frankfort – The Speaker of the Kentucky House of Representatives says it is unlikely the General Assembly would approve an expansion of gambling activity in the state. Speaker Jody Richards warns that residents of the Commonwealth should be wary of attempts to bring casinos or slot machines into Kentucky. The Bowling Green Democrat told Western's Public Radio that it is possible members of the General Assembly would approve a constitutional amendment measure, to allow "the people of Kentucky" to decide the question.

In a related story, a developer in Owensboro will host a meeting next week to outline his plans for a casino in that city. Officials with Daviess County government and the City of Owensboro are expected to attend.
