Lawmakers May Change KEES Scholarship Program

By AP

Frankfort, KY – About sixteen thousand Kentucky college students
could lose scholarship money next year, under a
bill lawmakers are considering in Frankfort. The
measure was approved by the Senate Education
Committee yesterday.

The bill would raise academic standards for
getting money and keeping it through the Kentucky
Educational Excellence Scholarships Program.
Those backing the bill believe a more selective
approach to the scholarships can ward off a
five million dollar shortfall, which is predicted for
2006.

The KEES scholarships have helped thousands
of Kentucky college students to afford the cost of
higher education.
